About Us

  • Who We Are

Walker Wilcox Matousek LLP opened its doors in 2005 with 8 founding partners from a Chicago-based Am-Law 200 firm. We have grown steadily since then to nearly 45 lawyers in Chicago and Houston. Our client relationships have endured for many years, in some cases decades, a testament to our commitment to exemplary service and our clients’ business objectives.

  • What We Do

Our firm’s core strength is managing complex insurance and reinsurance matters on behalf of a sophisticated client base from the world’s leading insurance markets in the U.S., London, Bermuda and Europe. We provide a wide variety of services, including coverage analysis, claims handling counseling, arbitration and mediation, litigation, trials and appeals. We have a deep bench of attorneys who not only litigate nationwide, but have briefed and argued appeals across the country, from the Supreme Courts of Delaware and Texas, among others, and from the Second to the Ninth Circuits, and most circuit courts between them.

Walker Wilcox is known domestically and abroad for the depth and scope of its experience in many insurance and reinsurance fields, including bad faith, directors and officers, cyber and privacy risks, financial institutions, first party property, commercial general liability, insurance bankruptcy, professional liability and reinsurance. We strive to help our clients respond to emerging issues in their fields, including recently developing areas such as sexual misconduct claims, ransomware, privacy, opioid litigation and climate change.

Additionally, we provide commercial litigation, bankruptcy, corporate, eminent domain and real estate services. Our lawyers have handled such areas as personal injury and product liability defense, class action defense, construction litigation, medical malpractice defense, toxic tort disputes, transportation litigation, and nursing home law.  Our lawyers have diverse backgrounds that permit a unique understanding of our clients’ businesses; several of our lawyers have served as in-house counsel for insurance companies and others worked as underwriters, engineers, chief financial officers, army interrogators and accountants prior to attending law school.

  • Where We Practice

Centrally located in Chicago and Houston, Walker Wilcox is positioned to handle cases efficiently across the country. We have represented our clients’ interests in just about every state in the U.S., Canada and Europe.   Both offices enjoy bright collaborative work spaces and best practice technology.  We keep a careful eye on network security and otherwise keeping our clients’ files secure.

  • How We Serve

Walker Wilcox recognizes the importance of providing training, skill and resources to charitable, community and educational organizations throughout our communities. For just a few examples, Walker Wilcox serves as Panel Counsel for the National Immigrant Justice Center where we provide legal counsel to refugees seeking asylum and U-Visas in the U.S. We participate regularly in the YMCA Community School Program “Produce Day” with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Walker Wilcox supports the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services and also sponsors the CVLS’ annual “Race Judicata.” We are integral to the “No Bats Baseball” club’s annual fundraising to various charities. We are active supporters of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.  Our Houston office participated in the 20th Great Grown-Up Spelling Bee, an event that raised more than $130,000 for the Houston Center for Literacy. We placed 3rd, caught by the word “sacerdotal.”

  • Diversity

Walker Wilcox is committed to a diverse workplace that reflects the community in which we live and work.  For us, diversity encompasses race, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation and innumerable other factors that make up who we are.   We firmly believe that a diverse workplace makes us a better law firm.  Diversity enables us to bring a broader perspective to the problems our clients face, leads to a higher quality of work, and enriches our work atmosphere.  It is the firm’s goal to foster a firm-wide culture that promotes diversity, so that all members of our team are valued.
